Hi Mom from Tommy!
Hi,family. This adventure has been interesting. The south had us surrounded and we could tell that Major Robert Anderson was getting worried. The good part about all this is only one man was killed. He died during the 100 gun salute. President Lincoln didn’t want us to fire first and neither did the south. General Beaureguard attacked our fort and Lieutenant Farleigh fired the first shoot at 4:30am April 12th, 1861to start the war. Were in South Carolina on an island in Fort Sumter. We had to surrender. Major Anderson sailed home a day early I think something might be wrong but I am coming home soon.
Love, your son Tommy
