Hello from Charleston!
Hello my fellow Alien Friends,
I was dragged to this garbage planet by my parents to see the famous Fort Sumter in Charleston, South Carolina. This is what I learned. First off, South Carolina was the first state to secede from the Union, which had a domino effect on the rest of the South. A few months later, the South had become the Confederate States of America. In April of 1861, Major General Robert Anderson occupied the fort with his troops. It is on an island, so they were waiting to be resupplied. The two sides were on the brink of war. The South was fighting for their rights and the Union was fighting to keep the union together and to free slaves. The President of the Union was Abraham Lincoln and he wanted the South to fire first because they would be the side that starts the war. General Beauregard, the commander of the south, had cannons at the ready on the morning of April 11th, 1861 and at 4:30 in the morning, Lieutenant Farliegh was told to fire his cannon because the person that they had asked before, was too whimpy to pull the lanyard. So Lieutenant Farliegh fired the first shot of the Civil War. Only some of the Union soldiers were able to fire the cannons at the fort. The Union then surrendered and then they boarded their ships and fired a 100 shot salute, but on the 27th shot, the cannon misfired and exploded, killing the man who manned it. He was the one and only casualty of the battle. They continued with the salute, but stopped at 50. Then they were let go and sailed home to the North.
Sincerely,
Pete Peter
