Fort Sumter Postcard
Dear tourist, you should have been there when the Union and Confederate were fighting at Fort Sumter! Fort Sumter is located in Charleston, South Carolina, and was a major battleground in the Civil War. The battle officially began on April 12, 1861 at 4:30 am when Lieutenant Farliegh of the Confederate Army fired the first shot of the battle. Major Robert Anderson led the Union Army and General Beauregard led the Confederate Army in the battle. The Battle At Fort Sumter began the Civil War, during which Abraham Lincoln was president of our country. Also, only one soldier was killed during the battle, as Daniel Huff of the Union Army was killed while firing the 27th round in a Flag Salute Ceremony (the cannon exploded.) Eventually, the Union Army ran out of necessary supplies and surrendered to the Confederate Army. The Union Army then sailed home back to the North.
