Hello my fellow Alien Friends,
I was dragged to this garbage planet by my parents to see the famous Fort Sumter in Charleston, South Carolina. This is what I learned. First off, South Carolina was the first state to secede from the Union, which had a domino effect on the rest of the South. A few months later, the South had become the Confederate States of America. In April of 1861, Major General Robert Anderson occupied the fort with his troops. It is on an island, so they were waiting to be resupplied. The two sides were on the brink of war. The South was fighting for their rights and the Union was fighting to keep the union together and to free slaves. The President of the Union was Abraham Lincoln and he wanted the South to fire first because they would be the side that starts the war. General Beauregard, the commander of the south, had cannons at the ready on the morning of April 11th, 1861 and at 4:30 in the morning, Lieutenant Farliegh was told to fire his cannon because the person that they had asked before, was too whimpy to pull the lanyard. So Lieutenant Farliegh fired the first shot of the Civil War. Only some of the Union soldiers were able to fire the cannons at the fort. The Union then surrendered and then they boarded their ships and fired a 100 shot salute, but on the 27th shot, the cannon misfired and exploded, killing the man who manned it. He was the one and only casualty of the battle. They continued with the salute, but stopped at 50. Then they were let go and sailed home to the North.
Sincerely,
Pete Peter
Dear Charles,
Our attack on Fort Sumter in Charleston, South Carolina went great. Major Robert Anderson did a good job defending the fort, but our General Beauregard was even better and we were able to get them to surrender. The first shot of the battle was fired at 4:30 am on April 12, 1861. Lieutenant Farleigh was the one that fired it, but it didn’t actually hit the fort. Not as if that was much of a setback, though. If it weren't for the stupid Union president, Abraham Lincoln, we wouldn't have been forced to start this war. We agreed to let the Union troops sail home with their weapons and without us taking any
prisoners. There was only one casualty, and, ironically, it wasn’t even during the battle. During the Union soldiers’ 100-gun salute, a cannon exploded on the 27th shot, ripping off Daniel Huff’s arm, killing him.
Signed,
Bill
Dear Fri End,
So unfortunately my family dragged me to visit Fort Sumter in Charleston, South Carolina. I really didn’t want to come here, but I miraculously learned many boring facts about this “fun” place. Did you know that it was the first battle that happened in the Civil War? General Beauregard, who was a commander of the Confederate states, wanted to take over Fort Sumter but Major Robert Anderson (who was a commander of the northern forces) told Beauregard that they haven’t received any orders of attack from President Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln didn’t want the north to fire the first shot because then the north would get blamed for the war. He wanted to wait for the Confederates to shoot. So, at 4:30 am, the first shot was fired on April 12,1861 by southern Lieutenant Farleigh. Major Anderson realized that the South had surrounded the fort with cannons, so he surrendered the fort after a while to prevent his soldiers from being killed. Even though one man died during this battle, it was called “The Bloodless Battle.” After this battle was over, the southern soldiers allowed the the northern soldiers to sail home to New York Well, that’s really how the trip to Charleston was. We learned about the history of the area and significant things that happened in the town. It was kinda cool to learn about, though the best part was visiting the lighthouses and being in the water. I hope you all are doing well!
Yours truly,

Dear Turtle,Hello, I am at Fort Sumter in Charleston, South Carolina. I wish you were here because you could see the devastation of the war that just occurred. You could have also shook Major Robert Anderson's’ hand, and watched the funeral about the one man that died from the cannon explosion and watched his men sail away. I couldn't believe that Lieutenant Farleigh took the first shot at 4:30 that started this whole war that’s about to begin. Then the weird thing that happened was that General Beauregard rowed out and asked if they surrendered. Theres a rumor going around that there was supplies coming to them but they didn't make it in time and they didn't have orders to shoot the cannons till the second day when the men took the war into their own hands and shot all the cannons anyway. Well I hope you can come here soon to see all this.Sincerely, TaylorHey Shreya,
We were driving along in South Carolina and my parents had this fantastic idea to stop in Charleston where Fort Sumter is for a historical field trip. As boring as it was I did learn a lot about Fort Sumter and the war. Major Robert Anderson was the commander of the United States of America and in control of the fort. General Beauregard was the commander of the Confederate States of America. It all happened in April of 1861. Abraham Lincoln wanted the South to fire the first shot of the war. General Beauregard told Fort Sumter that if they didn’t surrender they will attack in one hour. It was currently 3:30 A.M. Major Anderson did not surrender so as the South promised one hour at 4:30 A.M. Lieutenant Farleigh fired the first shot at the fort. In the end they sailed home, but they sailed home not as prisoners. They fired a honorary canon round for 100 shots but the 27th shot misfired and killed one man. He was the only man that died since the start of the firing. Well, that was my history lesson for the year. Wasn’t that interesting? I didn’t think so, but my parents made me write you a postcard from this historical spot.
Talk to you later,
Maddie
Hi,family. This adventure has been interesting. The south had us surrounded and we could tell that Major Robert Anderson was getting worried. The good part about all this is only one man was killed. He died during the 100 gun salute. President Lincoln didn’t want us to fire first and neither did the south. General Beaureguard attacked our fort and Lieutenant Farleigh fired the first shoot at 4:30am April 12th, 1861to start the war. Were in South Carolina on an island in Fort Sumter. We had to surrender. Major Anderson sailed home a day early I think something might be wrong but I am coming home soon.
Love, your son Tommy
